I had already been trying for a long time before this part of the story even started. There was a whole relationship before my partner where it never happened, so beginning again I felt hopeful, but I was not naive about the road ahead.
We went through several medicated cycles at home. Every one of them began with optimism and careful timing, and every one of them ended in the same place.
Eventually we looked at clinical treatment and decided to try an IUI. We put so much hope into that cycle and it did not work.
The month after that we had to face something harder than any of the negative tests, which was that continuing at the clinic simply was not financially possible. I had already started medication to support ovulation, so we decided to use the Maia Baby kit at home instead. We were not expecting anything different from it. It felt like one more attempt along a very familiar path.
Two weeks later I saw the first positive pregnancy test of my life. I was completely shocked, and after everything we had been through it almost did not feel real at first.
Looking back, using Maia Baby was the only thing we had done differently that cycle. After years of waiting and disappointment and wondering whether it would ever happen for us, finally seeing those two lines meant more than we can ever put into words.
